Masterpiece
Youth is hands down one of the year's best. Cast is superb (Caine, Keitel, Dano, Weisz, Fonda), cinematography is outstanding.
I hope it makes it to the Oscars.
I'm in the middle-ground here. People seem to be rating this film either as a masterpiece or as a disaster. I felt that there was a lot to be admired but that it fell flat in a few key aspects and scenes.
What worked: The acting - superb all round. Cinematography - wonderful. Editing - excellent. Direction - 4 out of 5
What didn't work: Script - a curate's egg. The ending - a decline into soap opera and sentiment.
