Your logic confuse me. You say because there was no funeral and no goodbyes, this implies she's dead. But then, why would they (any character) not mention her as being alive? If they're hiding her, then wouldn't it make sense to have a funeral and say goodbye to really sell that she's dead? If they're not hiding her, then why isn't Andre (who's really broken up by all of this) not by her side in the hospital?
And if you think this is a writing stunt, there have been plenty of characters who were stated as dead, had funerals and had goodbyes, only to be alive. So the absence of a funeral and goodbyes is no more an indication that a character is definitely alive just like a funeral and goodbyes is no more an indication that a character is definitely dead (in the SO genre).
