Yay or nay? My nastalgia wants this to be a rare show where they for once hit the right marks but then I think about New Blood and remember I dont care anymore π
But so far none of the episodes have truned me away. Compared to the 1st episode of New Blood, my dark passenger was already inner cursing to myself.
Well bare in mind I haven't seen the 5th episode yet, because I know they there is a 2 week break so I'm going to save it for next week, but... so far I'm loving the casting of Deb, Harry and Masuka. They've been extremely entertaining, and that is reason enough to watch this show.
But the casting of rookie Dexter isn't great (but its good), and that's because Michael C. Hall is such a brilliant actor, so you can't match that. And I didn't expect them to. However you can create something unique because this Dexter is only 20-years-old, so it shouldn't be the same character as veteran Dexter. I want rookie Dexter to make a lot more mistakes... and even when he's casing somebody and looking inside their house, he should mess-up and be seen by someone.
And when he's got someone on a kill table in the middle of a sports complex (the dumbest idea ever, and fitting for a rookie - but not much dumber than a church which veteran Dexter did for Doomsday), he should be caught... not by police, but by somebody random.
I know his guy escaped in the 4th episode, but it still became relatively drama-free because the car took care of things.
Again, I haven't seen the 5th episode yet, and maybe we see everything fall apart... but I wanted to see rookie Dexter consistently making BIG mistakes in every episode and paying the price for it, and it would have provided more drama and suspense.

This. MCHALL oozes charm with little to no effort. I beleive he is what made Dexter (2006) so special. BUT BUT, Patrick Gibson is delightfull in his own way and he for sure has MCHALL's Dexter mannerisms, facial expressions and cadence locked firmly down (IMO).
I agree I love the casting of Patrick Gibson, and very happy they didn't screw it up.
They knew it was impossible to match MCH but they did the next best thing!
Plus I LOVE the Deb casting and Harry and Masuka castings!
I don't understand why they've made the Batista character so quiet and sad-looking all the time.
No passion, no emotion, for a character who was a lot more outgoing in the 2006 series.
Young Batista is the most poorly done character so far, whereas young Masuka is PERFECT.
