Good movie but it's been mismarketed.
The plot structure is pretty wacky. And Fred Rogers is not the main character. Still, it is far better than I expected.

shareThat's not surprising to gather, really. Given Fred Rogers's very modest personality and character, it's going to be difficult to market this film no matter the take except portraying him as realistically as possible. This is hard because everyone is watching the film to see him.

If anybody watched the trailer or read thing about this movie they would know that. I’m sick of posers that complain, I don’t know maybe the read the plot of the movie you clowns.
shareReleasing it the same weekend as Frozen II was probably not a great move, either.
That's probably going to be a monster, and it's also a family film.
As far as I could tell, the film was marketed as a movie about a reporter who interviews Rogers. If the movie poster was the sole source of marketing for this film that you were exposed to, then you might think it is about Fred Rogers for the most part.
Everything I read and watched indicated it was not a biopic about Rogers. I'm not sure why you're confused.
Does it cover Rogers's experience as a Navy commando in the Korean War, or the years he spent as a bullfighter in Spain?
shareNo, Rogers was in college and seminary school during his college years then went straight into television.
Two of the characters in the movie asked if he was a soldier or SEAL; Fred said no. :)
Helps to check Imdb if the MC description is short.
Storyline:
Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America's most beloved neighbor.
I avoided it because of the trailers I saw. By the time I got a better idea of what the film was about it was out of the cinemas.
sharestarted off a bit rough with the reporter hitting his daddy, that sort of right away gave you a bad vibe of his role, but pretty soon got into the groove, neat how they have mixed old picture frame with modern, looks cheap but i guess that's intentional, pleasant movie, usually i don't like new movies but tom hanks seem to have a way of picking great flicks to star in, i remember there was buzz on the news networks about a documentary about this fella, i kind of rather had watched that, i've actually heard more buzz about the documentary and haven't heard a thing about this movie. the photography is great too, it doesn't have that damp, dark, bleak like look that modern movies usually have, and the great zooming in draws you into the story. the only part i didn't like was the bad daddy, i would have been fine with just mr rogers and the newspaper man talking without the side stories, and it seemed dragged out a bit as if it didn't need to run for almost 2 hours. you know what's funny, even though this was a children's show the movie is rated from age 7. every time i saw mr rogers' town it brought me back to the early episode of "family guy" with stewie causing mayhem.
