IMDb shutting down message boards.

Bummer! I enjoy coming here on Thursdays and getting everyone's opinions on what's happening in this show since it has so many twists and turns.

Not meaning to be crude, but this sucks. If IMDB is closing its message boards, what other purpose does it serve?

reply

None, really. That's the only reason I come on this site. And it helps figure out if I want to watch a show/movie or not by seeing what people are saying about it. This seems like a really dumb move.

Agree. Just about everything else on the site can be found with a simple search. I know the trolling on the boards has been bad for a long time. But the ignore feature works perfectly for that. If they want less traffic, they're going to get their wish.

Agreed

Oh my gosh, who makes theses decisions?? What a joke. It's the only reason most people go on the site and a good way to discuss our favorite shows. Anyone have a good alternative website?

Here's another option for you:

Thank you kindly, I haven't heard of that site before but will be checking it out now.

I discovered this site years ago and found so much info about movies, once I discovered the message boards I freaked out and began discussing all kinds of things with internet strangers. I've had some of the most memorable conversations that I carry with me in my real life that came from the IMDB message boards. I'm so mad and sad they are doing this.

The trolls have ruined this place. Since they aren't willing to invest in professional moderation it is better they close them. Maybe they can turn it into an actual professional website and hire people with real fact checking skills.

I just found out about the closing of the boards today. I'm surprised and disappointed by the decision. I've been a member 12 years, and Imdb is my favorite site for TV, movies and celebrity discussion. Its really the only site I post on about TV shows and movies. I haven't post much in past few months, but i still prefer it to facebook. I barely use facebook and didn't even know Imdb had facebook until today.

I wish they will reconsider and leave this boards open. Over the years there have been many entertainment boards but to me Imdb is the best. I used to post on fanforum years ago too, but its only imdb that I have continued to check out and post on. Both sites have been around about the same years -- I didn't think fanforum boards will outlast imdb boards.

I´m also desolate. More, I´m devastated. I can´t accept or understand why. We need message boards. WHY????!!!!
