Fathers Afraid of Their Own Sons
The scenes between Paul and Michael were so uncomfortable. The fact that Paul couldn't directly confront his own son told you all you needed to know about his failures as a father. Their scenes together reminded me of the scenes between Jim (James Dean) and his father (Jim Backus) in Rebel Without A Cause. In both movies, you have weak, ineffective fathers and contemptuous, dangerous sons. Speaks to the fact that boys need strong, morally-grounded fathers (or uncles, coaches, etc.) to teach them what it means to be a good man.
PS: If you want a double-feature of the world's worst couple get-togethers, watch this and Carnage.
Food in Films: So many courses to choose from! The melting chocolate egg dessert gets my vote for most scrumptious.
