He didn't kill him, he fractured his skull and he could've died, even so though yeah its ridiculous that the guy didn't get any disciplinary action whatsoever.

One of several dead-ends with this plot. How about him hooking up with that fake slut who pretended to like the son on prom night? That was never even brought up by anyone at any time afterwards. Such a poorly written movie in so many instances...
