She came off more annoying than anything to be honest. Way too whiny and needy not to mention she is just so unattractive. Could they find an uglier girl to play the part?
On top of that this movie is not a true representation of teen female sexuality at all. I never met a 15 year old girl that was so mature or good at sex or that confident in her sexuality. This movie was a miss
I think she acted EXACTLY like a 15-year-old girl and that was why you found her bratty and annoying. I don't know what makes you think she was overly confident about sex, she just liked it. Some girls do. Maybe you should have met more of them?
She isn't that unattractive. She looks pretty much like the girls I knew (and occasionally had sex with) when I was that age. Someone like Bella Thorne definitely does not. If you compare her to ACTUAL teenage girls as opposed to stunning Hollywood beauties, she looks pretty average and actually rather physically mature for 15 (which the author probably was).
As for this left-wing, militant feminist agenda some people are picking up, I have no idea what movie you're watching. There are people on both the left and right who are so full of political bullsh*t, they're completely incapable of appreciating anything for what is IS.
"Let be be finale of seem/ The only emperor is the Emperor of Ice Cream"
Some people are unable to see anything for what it is when they becom obsessed with a political agenda. They see it everywhere when it actually doesn't exist everywhere. It certainly does not exist in DOATG. It's based on the partially autobiographical tgraphic novel by Phoebe Gleckner who drew upon experiences from her own life to tell her story. Not everyone has to relate to Minnie and what she goes through but certainly the subject of sexual experimentation by a teenage girl should be something everyone can relate to even males. I have watched countless coming of age stories throughout the years and never had a problem relating to the male characters although I am female.
I think the brainwashing that has gone on at a societal and familial level for many years is what accounts for some viewers inability to see or relate to Minni. They have been told in hundreds of ways that a " good little girl" does not have sex, doesn't enjoy it and never ever experiments with it. Not unless she is a " slut" in which case she's a " bad little girl" and deserves to be disliked and kicked to the curb.
It is just plain sad to me that here it is 2016 and still we have too many poster on this board who actively dislike Minnie. All because she enjoys sex and experiments with it. She is like a kid in a candy store who wants to at least taste or nibble on every piece of candy in the store. Does she careen through a series of up and down emotional moods? Of course she does. She's hormonal. All teenagers are moody at at some point they are pitifully whinny and very annoying.
But Minnie also has extreme highs where she is exuberant, exited and fiull of the joy of life. Why not discuss that side of her? Is it because what she is so exited about is her enjoyment of sex? Is the real issue the fact that she does not wait around to be asked but goes after what she wants agressively? We can't have female going around thinking they are empowered and that they can run the show now can we? This movie is so interesting to me mainly because of the reactions to it. It is a good measure of just how far away we are from female empowerment.
I loved her. At first I didn't find her attractive. But, as the film went on, I was impressed with her intelligence and maturity. (Although I hated her threatening her lover to tell his girlfriend/her mother. I guess it was understandable given her supposed age.)
This movie is quite realistic. They never presented it as "this is every teenage girl" but there's certainly a long, long history of horny teenage girls. I knew plenty of teenage girls who had relationships with older men and were much hornier than teenage boys. The scene where the teen boy was overwhelmed by her was very realistic. The 70s was before the Nancy Reagan era of uptightness and "just say no" and parents were ex-hippies with a much looser idea of normalcy.
She came off more annoying than anything to be honest. Way too whiny and needy not to mention she is just so unattractive. Could they find an uglier girl to play the part?
What's funny is that I've seen countless movies where the nerdiest guy in school (ie not very attractive) somehow scores the hottest blonde popular chick.
I figure what's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Have you actually visited her IMDB page? She is quite beautiful and unique if you look through her photos. She looks nothing like she does in the movie. Actors are really good at transforming their looks for a part. They gain weight, lose weight, wear prosthetics, make-up to make them look beautiful, older, younger, uglier, etc. For instance Charlize Theron in the movie Monster, she is a beautiful woman and she gained weight and they made her look ugly/older with make-up. Looks can be deceiving, especially in the entertainment industry.
