‘Doctor Who’ Scores Worst Ratings For Season Finale

The new series of Doctor Who now also holds the record for the worst ratings for a season finale in the show’s entire 60-year history.

Saturday saw Episode 8, “Empire of Death,” watched by only 2.25 million viewers, according to the UK overnight ratings system.

The previous episode from last week, “The Legend of Ruby Sunday,” holds the record for the worst ratings in the show’s 60-year history.

Viewership is down considerably from just six months ago as more than 2 million viewers have stopped watching from when the Christmas Special aired in December.

Series 14 starring Ncuti Gatwa is also down 3 million viewers from the first special from last year featuring the return of David Tennant.

I don't think overnights really matter considering it goes live on iPlayer way before broadcast.

It wasn't a good episode in my opinion but the new way the show is going live makes these figures a bit pointless

Yeah it doesn't matter that much if the BBC are getting good enough views on iPlayer, as with the terrestrial BBC being advert free as well, they are not needing to appease advertisers to get dollars, just their bottom lines.

I suppose the big thing will be if Disney stick with the show for a 3rd season. They agreed to go into partnership for the first 2 seasons which basically have been shot back to back.

People have said the show will be in trouble if Disney pull out but I don't see it myself. The show survived fine without Disney so I think if they pull out there's still going to be money and an audience.

It'll be interesting to see if we are getting some spin offs soon. I think there's a great world of adventures but at the same time I don't want them going too mad like Marvel

Yeah will be interesting to see, especially with Russell T Davies recently promising fans he will reunite with Torchwood actress Eve Myles in the future: radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/russell-t-davies-eve-myles-doctor-who-newsupdate/
