Lipstick Alley post: Is Eric Wallace (The Flash's Executive Producer) Pro Black Women?
Eric Wallace has been the Showrunner/Executive Producer of The Flash for the past two seasons. He's the show's First Black male Showrunner who took over after one producer was ousted on abuse claims and the other transitioned to another show.share
Eric started off as a writer, and when his new role was announced, fans of Iris West (played by Candice Patton) were particularly excited that she'd have an ally at the top, who would respect her role as the leading lady.
Historically, the writers have been flippant about giving her solid story lines that didn't revolve around being other character's emotional punching bags. Despite her relationship with The Flash/Barry Allen being a central focus in the comics, the show pretty much craps on them. No sex scenes, barely any dates that aren't cut off.
Then all of season 6, Eric stuffed Iris away in a mirror and kept her separated from Barry. Now as Season 7 is underway (and the final three episodes from from season 6 which were delayed due to covid) are airing, it's clear he doesn't care to flesh out Iris's story or respect her in any way.
So I just wonder: does he have something against Black women? Because he promises so much stuff in interviews but never delivers, leaving Iris's fans to be disappointed. Her fandom was so excited for him to get promoted but it's clear he doesn't value her character or care about positive representation.
And after being criticized all last season, he's started blocking fans and he's gone private. He won't even engage with the conversation.
Yet, he coddles Killer Frost (played by Danielle Panabaker), and has even been quoted saying she's one of his favorite characters. In tonight's episode *SPOILER* he let Killer Frost have super speed for a scene, when before tht was something, not including Jessie, that was unique to The Flash/West family (Barry, Wally, Nora-Westallen and for an episode, Iris).
He seems to get off on undermining Iris at every turn and trying to lessen her. Is he anti-Black women or just a terrible show runner?
