…the program’s focus is race and sexuality rather than it’s ostensible topic.
A lot of exposition is about the tragedies and triumphs of the black and gay communities. Along the way white Americans came along and appropriated their music, corrupted it with commercialism and then racist rock-n-rollers killed it off because of their discomfort with both the success of black and gay superstars and the elitist and decadent NYC club scene. Then AIDs and Ronald Reagan killed the club scene.
Honestly, a lot of questionable assertions are made in the course if this program by the interview subjects with no corroborating evidence.
