Part 1 vs Part 2

After a few viewings of part 1 it's grown on me... the backstory is well fleshed out and interesting, but not overly explained, the pacing and development is good, the whole movie plays out quite well actually while avoiding most cliches of worse horror.

Part 2 for some reason does nothing for me. The movie doesn't seem to draw one in as masterfully, it doesn't set up the backstory properly, so the film lacks atmosphere.

Part 2 was darker and creepier and just as well written which is rare in horror sequels. There were moments where I, as a lifelong horror fan, was legitimately scared. The nun *shudders*

Both parts were great. But I can't help but find the second chapter more sinister and, um, powerful to me. Maybe it's because I liked the themes, characters and overall story better, maybe it's because I've seen it in cinema theatre, but that's it.

Nolan, I love you forever!

Usually, I don't think sequels are better than the originals (especially in the horror genre), but i thought Conjuring 2 was better than The Conjuring.

I just think this one stayed consistently scary, and I thought it was a more interesting story this time around.

I thought the total opposite. Everything you say about Part 1, I thought about Part 2 and vice versa. I guess it's just a matter of personal taste. I thought The Conjuring 2 was better written, structured and acted than the first and really kept my attention throughout. I also found it scarier. The Conjuring for me had a strong start and then really started to lose me at about the half way mark. I had to watch it in two parts because I started to fall asleep.

I think with the second one it's also a completely new story as opposed to the typical sequel continuation of the same events with the same family. I have to confess I'd already read a lot about and seen other dramatisations of The Enfield Poltergeist case so I was already more interested in this one and even though they typically embellished/invented some stuff, all the classic aspects of the story were intact.

I also liked that no one believed it outright, or even after some of the investigations, which did actually take place in real life. It eventually just got written off as most likely a fraud. I was impressed they at least included all of that plus the doubts and cries of hoax re Amityville and The Warrens with Stephen Kaplan on that talk show.

Two seats in the back of the cinema, hazy. Ah yeah, you're forgettin' it and all the mad *beep* we did
