Part 1 vs Part 2

After a few viewings of part 1 it's grown on me... the backstory is well fleshed out and interesting, but not overly explained, the pacing and development is good, the whole movie plays out quite well actually while avoiding most cliches of worse horror.

Part 2 for some reason does nothing for me. The movie doesn't seem to draw one in as masterfully, it doesn't set up the backstory properly, so the film lacks atmosphere.

I kind of feel like one each did a half slightly better. I liked the start of Part 1 better. Where the family is being haunted before the Warens show up.

But once they show up I felt like Part 2 did that half better.

The truth is out there. But so are lies.

Conjuring 2 is just slightly scarier than the original I think. Both are great and I think we're lucky to finally have a horror sequel that not only gives the first one a run for its money but that also has many people saying it's better than the first.

I prefer the first, but Conjuring 2 was really good as well. I admit I had low expectations going in to see it, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it not only was a well made and solid sequel, but that it nearly made me prefer it to the original. Both are excellent, but I still like the first better (if only slightly).
