Does the Final Season Really Need...

an appearance by Bryan Cranston and/or Aaron Paul (other than just for fan service)? Aside from the need to wrap up "Gene's" storyline, I personally always envisioned the ending of the series to be have Jimmy/Saul in his office. He receives a call to go to the jail for an inmate named Brandon Mayhew, so he stands up, gathers his bag, and exits the office. Since we already know what happens after that, I personally see no reason for Walt or Jesse to appear.

No.

No it's not necessary unless there is some important revelation in their first meeting with Saul that we didn't already know about.

What's more, we're talking about a 14 year gap between these characters/actors first appearing on Breaking Bad and season 6 of BCS, so for Pinkman it's an actor in his 40's playing a character in his 20's. It's jarring enough with all the other aged actors returning.

I wouldn't mind seeing archive footage serving as flashbacks or something.

Considering Saul didn’t know either of them when BB started, I see no reason for them to appear. Hank and Gomie was a different matter considering Saul did know both of them from the beginning.

reply

Exactly. When we first met Saul in BB, he was at the jail for Badger. I’ve just read places where people are talking about Bryan and Aaron appearing, and I just don’t see any reason for it.

And we already have a Jesse/Walt cameo in El Camino, it would literally be unnecessary

reply

I certainly don't see a "need" but they may very well find a way because people love their fanservice .

we have 2 timelines going here..pre BB and Post BB the story will end With Gene

That's a cool idea for an ending. Not what I imagine, but I'd be content with it.

For me, if Walt and Jesse return, I would imagine it to be the Part A finale. And that hour would be like a condensed version of the events of Breaking Bad. But it wouldn't' be a clip episode, we'd get new scenes that were just referencing what was going on, so it wouldn't really be new story, but more like additional story. Then Part B would be all about after, when he's Gene.

Of course, like many, I'm curious what will happen to Kim. I used to think she probably gets killed and he's too distraught to ever mention her. Maybe. But now I'm more thinking she has a come to Jesus moment and goes back to being perfectly ethical, maybe gets with Howard. Tells Saul she never wants him to speak to her again, or even OF her. And so he doesn't.

Also curious how Francesca stays with Saul.

I would like to see there being some scenes that take place during the events of Breaking Bad from Saul's perspective that may include Walt in new footage. That could work, or they could have Saul meet Walt randomly before the events of Breaking Bad in an incident that neither would remember (e.g. Saul runs into Walt at a grocery store or at the car wash).
