Decent... could have been better.

Positives;
- Shot at a beautiful location (Algoma District, Ontario, Canada). Some nice photography.

- Some brutal kills. Good practical gore.

- The atmosphere was pretty good.

- The whole following the killer thing is an interesting change of pace.

Issues;
- This was unrated and has a few very brutal kills... so why on earth were some of the kills off screen? Why would you do that!

- I knew beforehand that this would have zero nudity thanks to the IMDb parents guide section, I thought to myself it would have been a good idea to have the killer watching some beautiful women skinny dipping... this movie does have a swimming scene! You were so close! Let them strip!

- Following the killer for most of the movie gives you little interest in the victims, I knew this would be an issue beforehand and it is a pretty big issue. It doesn't help that the victims aren't likeable at all and since you spend so little time with them you don't get to know them well... I can't remember any of their names or even how many of them there were.

- That scene at the end with the near 10 minutes of rambling story time in the car. Didn't care for it.

"That scene at the end" happens to be the most critical part of the entire film. I suggest you rewatch it again. This time, without the bong and doritos.

The ending was poor. I can't even remember what all the waffling was about, it wasn't needed. This is a slasher flick with nearly zero character development. No 10 minute lore or metaphor drop at the end is going to save it, it's an anticlimatic finish to say the least.

If a movie can't be understood or enjoyed whilst drunk it's failed it's purpose brother, what do you expect me to do? Watch movies sober?

reply

Doritos are pretty good.

Thanks for the review. The nudity thing is a shame. It is part and parcel of this kind of horror. I don't think that's unreasonable. It goes hand-in-hand with dumb decisions and cellphones not working. And I remember you making that point about how sticking with the killer the whole time risks removing interest in the victims some while ago. Still, I look forward to catching this.

It's worth checking out for slasher fans. Some good kills and it's something a bit different. Sadly it's not that great. Okay for a one time watch as a curiosity but it's no match for conventionally shot slashers, I'd take any of the 12 Friday the 13th movies over this.

From what I've seen online this movie is quite divisive. Some think it's awful whilst others seem to really enjoy it, needless to say your mileage may vary. There's a chance you'll like it more than I did.

For me it's probably a 5.5 out of 10. Completely carried by the few good kill scenes, location photography and the somewhat unique shooting style.

I'll make sure I post once I've seen it.

How can you rate it if you haven't seen the whole thing? Seems wrong... no, it doesn't seem wrong, it is wrong. No one has a right to rate a movie they haven't seen.

Now, I just started and it looks pretty bad... but I don't have any right to rate it, yet.
Oh, I'm at 18:33...

Have you finished yet? If so, what did you think (no spoilers)?
