Anyone else thinking of bailing?

I really enjoyed the first few episodes. It seemed really promising. However the last few episodes were not as promising imo... there's something missing, maybe the supporting cast. I hung in there with Outcast and that didn't go to well. What made shows like Banshee entertaining was its unique cast. I'm not getting that from Quarry. I

Nope, it's fantastic. Glad to see it's not Banshee 2.0. I can do without unbelievable scenarios and way-too-outlandish characters.

reply

The great thing about Banshee it didn't take itself serious initially. However the final season did and it sucked! Quarry is a slow burn without the quirkiness of great actors attached to it. If you're going the slow burn route you need quirky characters. The gay hitman was a nice try but that guy is boring and not really interesting iMO

reply

I hear what you're saying. I'm not finding the characters nearly interesting enough to invest my time in this show. I might check back with it later. Perhaps binge watch it while things are slow.

reply

I don't know if I'll bail, but this latest episode (the hit on Lindale) made me think there are too many story lines. Arthur's family, Buddy and his love life (and his mom), sun glasses guy and the Broker, the detectives investigating Cliff's death, the guitar player -- it feels unfocused.

Maybe I'll wait and binge. It might come together better if I'm not waiting a week between episodes.

reply

One thing about many of the episodes - I like the music, but the music is taking way too much time at expense of the storylines advancing...

reply

At least it's great music and not any of that rap crap shït.

reply

Hey easy all rap isn't bad lol just overdid now a days. However I'm a blues jazz kind of guy so this genre of music is right up my alley. That's the one saving grace is the music for me.

reply

Yeah man! I noticed that. The show seems really into focusing on the musicians. Which is... okay. Sometimes I want those seconds to accumulate into more story (over setting) though.

reply

Totally agree. This almost feel like I'm binging. Great observation. If I was to binge this show I have the luxury of getting to the core of the apple a lot quicker than its developing. Like the black guy musician/hitman or whatever they are developing him to be is dragging a bit. I have really no attachment to these characters thus far.. I'll give it a few more weeks. But I refuse to be a Leftover,Carnivale,Outcast victim again watching a show that goes no place when it's concluded.

reply

I know what you mean by being a victim. It seems some shows are just built on a premise and they're figuring it out as they go along, the shows are on long enough that the runners and writers turn over and there doesn't seem to be a satisfying payoff for all the time I invested.

Some shows are okay to watch weekly since they satisfy weekly. But it's just easier to watch in binge mode when you are waiting for a payoff will come episodes later or maybe not at all.

I know that I might spend the same amount of hours watching a show in both weekly and binge fashions, but the perceived investment is much less when binge watching.

reply

I like The Leftovers and Carnivale. I have not seen Outcast.

reply

I just watched ep 6 and I'm done. After the first episode it's been downhill.

Stick to Dumb & Dumber, you're more suited for that.

Reported for doody.

Agreed, dumb *beep* comment!

My thought exactly lol.

reply

Disappointed. I miss BANSHEE. I got up to ep. 5, Not much to keep it rolling. Sorry, Cinemax.

reply

I think it's a mistake to just expect a Banshee clone. Despite being on the same channel and both being pulpy, I don't really feel they have much in common. Banshee was like a comic book brought to life, Quarry isn't that kind of completely over top action stuff.

reply

Yeah, I'm bailing. Can't stand the wife drama. Just dump the stupid, cheating, whining cow already and get to the killing. I might watch an episode later in the season see if it's improved.

reply

I managed three minutes. The shaky-cam was way overused, it was more like lurch-cam. I hate how the choice to use shaky cam shows such contempt for the actors, writers and viewers. We just want to watch the story and acting, we don't need to speculate on how many martinis the camera guy had for breakfast.
