Anyone else think "David is really"... Spoiler Alert...

... the Peterson's Son/Older brother who they think is dead?

Maybe it's been mentioned but I haven't seen it...

The MP said he was part of a program where he killed and burned all of the other guys in the program... a program he was in with the dead son/brother. Early on they show a picture of those guys and a guy who looks like David is in the picture with their son. Then at the end they say the burned bodies in the gym had their teeth knocked out... so they couldnt be identified by dental records. He prob did the same thing the guys in his unit. Then knowing his parents had the picture of the unit casue he gave it to them, he went to the plastic surgeon in Miami to make him look like one of the dead guys so he could point him out in the picture and say, "see thats me with your boy right there." Thus gaining access to help them with their problems. Then the only reason he turns on his family is cause like the MP says, he's hardwired to kill anyone who can blow his cover and they all can once the daughter digs up dirt and the MP's show up.

David's initial acts are all to help the Peterson's... albeit in his effed up way.

He beats the *beep* out of those guys to get them to stop bullying his little bro and continues to try make him tougher and more capable of handling tough situations on his own thru out.

He knows the sister's BF is a no good, so he sets him up to get him out of her life forever. Sure he killed two people to do it, but he's a psycho... and after all it's the thought that counts

He kills the Dad's boss and thus gets him the promotion he missed out on.

All would have improved their lives and futures if the sister didnt get nosey.

What other motivation would David have for showing up at their house if he wasn't their family and trying to help them? If he's not, he killed their son and the only poss explanation would be guilt, but I don't think this guy feels that.

If you think about, it's hard to come up with any other reason why he up at their house to help their lives along besides him being their dead son/brother.

I don't think he was the son. Remember the scene where he comes out of the bathroom with just a towel on (I remember that fondly). :-) There was chemistry between him and the daughter, so that would be very weird if he was the brother. Unless we are in Game of Thrones world. :-) I think he was a good friend of the son and wanted to keep his word by checking up on the family or maybe he went there to hide away as he was on the run.

Fun theory, but he was not the son. There is a picture of their squad on the mantle (shown very early in the film). Allegedly they are both in the photo.
