Both very similar films of scientific geniuses who suffer progressive debilitating/psychological illnesses. Which one is the better? For me its A Beautiful Mind by a mile. The story kept you in through till the end and there wasba decent subplot with the whole Nazi spy secret messages. Theory had a good 1st hour but trailed off. It felt like it was going through the motions and didn't focus on any of Hawkings struggles with his academic career. Russel Crowe was also better than Redmayne.
Yeah, it seem like recycled copy of A beautiful mind which I enjoyed, not so much this, gave it 5/10, very boring. I am pretty sure in few years someone recycle it again and come with another disabled person and its struggle while achieving success in their field.
The best - Fight Club, American Beauty & Falling Down.
I thought they were both really good but I think that I like a beautiful mind more than theory of everything. But both were good and I can see the similarities between them. I think that a beautiful mind was a little bit more dramatic and suspenseful because he was losing his mind. Hawkings had a much more debilitating illness but it was physical in nature and his mind was unaffected. Not being able to trust your own mind and perceptions is extremely terrifying, although I think I would still rather have schizophrenia than Lou Gehrig's disease because then you are completely trapped in your own body which to me is one of the most horrifying things I can imagine. Actually both situations are really horrifying, but at least schizophrenia goes into remission with treatment. What Stephen Hawking has there's really not much that can be done.
If I had to pick one, knowing how the real stories turned out, I'd say ABM. TTOF makes me cry buckets and I'd rather be trapped in my own mind than my own body, but the outcome was better. Alicia Nash could handle a mental Illness. Whereas Jane hawking is not portrayed to be able to handle a physical one so I say a beautiful mind only because I know the love Story turned out better in real life.
