Theory v A Beautiful Mind

Both very similar films of scientific geniuses who suffer progressive debilitating/psychological illnesses. Which one is the better? For me its A Beautiful Mind by a mile. The story kept you in through till the end and there wasba decent subplot with the whole Nazi spy secret messages. Theory had a good 1st hour but trailed off. It felt like it was going through the motions and didn't focus on any of Hawkings struggles with his academic career. Russel Crowe was also better than Redmayne.

A considerable amount of time has passed since I've last watched A Beautiful Mind, while I watched theory this morning so comparing the two now might be little unfair. Anyway I didn't think they were two very similar films except for the fact that the lead characters were both scientists and had an incurable disease.
In beautiful mind,Russell Crowe's character was not always aware of his condition. Therefore making it less intolerable. It was more problematic for the people around him than himself, while in theory though his wife and children had to endure a lot of pain and sacrifice for Hawkins, he was the one who had to suffer the most and had to physically endure all that suffering.
And in beautiful mind, I remember an element of suspense in the film, while in theory, from the very first scene I felt bad knowing he'll end up in a chair. Theory doesn't have much suspense, rather it's a good romantic drama.
And Russell Crowe is no doubt an amazing actor and he did an amazing job in beautiful mind but eddie was amazing as well. The way he walked, spoke, the expressions in his eyes, they were amazing!

I wouldn't have known if you hadn't written that. Honestly, your English looks flawless.

A Beautiful Mind is fantastic, one of my favorite movies. I think it also has the more interesting story.

However, The Theory Of Everything is very good too, Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones were tremendous.

A Beautiful Mind by far. This just felt like several scenes and moments put together with a very tenuous overall direction, whereas A Beautiful Mind had great pacing, suspense, drama. That final moment where all the professors lay their pens on his tablehad so much more impact.

A beautiful mind is based on an imaginary character which does not exist. Real life is not that dramatic, always! The great genus post Einstein era never got the Nobel Prize, as of yet. Both the movies are great but cannot be compared!

Are you a prophet or something? A Beautiful Mind is based on a real person (John Nash), who did exist, but was sadly killed in an automobile accident yesterday. As with all such films, great liberties were taken with the historical facts but John Nash was not an imaginary character. He did win the Nobel Prize and his unusually successful battle with schizophrenia is well-known.

The book is far better than the film (as is often the case), but while the character of Nash in the movie is fictionalized (as Nash himself said), that's not the same as saying that the character is "imaginary." Nash thought Russell Crowe should have won an Oscar for it and he claimed to like the movie very much.

Exactly! This is so wierd someone would say John Nash was an "imaginary character". I've just been reflecting on this and it seems to me he had lived a full and fulfilling life despite his desease. He reunited with his wife and recieved the Nobel Prize. Which was well deserved. Unfortunately, his son has the desease, too. Well, on the other hand, as I understand, it's not as bad as what Stephen Hawking has. At least, it is treatable with the right medication.

yes. My bad. I came to know of the John Nash story after the accident report. I did not do my research after I saw the film few years back. And no I am not a prophet. No need to be so harsh on anyone, I guess. Its not a life and death scenario.

And ALS id not a treatable condition. Its like a death sentence for a patient. The only bonus that Hawkins had was it was not familial and was due to a sporadic mutation which makes its progression slow.

Cheers.
Long live the king! :)

A Beautiful Mind rapes Theory.

CG GORE IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THE HORROR GENRE!

Both movies sucked.

Damn right. They weren't in the same league as Transformers.

I'm very bad at detecting sarcasm but I think this is what it is.
