The ugliest pair of Elizabeth Bennet & Mr. Darcy in film history ?

I love Pride and Prejudice, my most favorite of all Jane Austen's books. I have seen a dozen versions of this novel on film, but the casting of our heroine and hero in this movie has got to be the ugliest pair ever shown in film history, LOL.

For this generation of performers, Dan Stevens would be my favorite actor for Mr. Darcy, and Romola Garai or Aisling Loftus for Elizabeth Bennet.

What a 'nasty' comment to suggest as a thread title. Opening the way for an even nastier comment.

The lady doth impress when seen previously. Why the looks may be important could well be down to the descriptions given by an author. However when you look at the portraits of the period the attractiveness of the subject rarely shows. Considering we are told the artists tended to flatter makes it all the more difficult to judge.

Anna is not the Hollywood beauty but her work may well be superior to those. I will agree that she seems to have dressed down for this adaptation but we may well have been spoiled by the costumes in other period offerings.

Again my reading of this type of tale is lacking. I blame this on my being baby boomer now 68 fascinated by having the stories told to me by television. Saved me a lot time [and that is regrettable really].

But UGLY and dog not words that should be getting used. I would be more than happy to be seen as the companion to Anna who is actually attractive.

I couldn't get past 5 mins after I saw who they cast as Elizabeth....too homely, stern and tired looking to be believable as the character she is supposed to be portraying..granted she might be a decent actress ( I haven't been able to watch enough to find out), but SHE does not embody ANYTHING remotely close to the Elizabeth I've been accustomed to in books and/or movies...the casting director needs to find a new career because they obviously are horrible at their job!

I totally agree. I was most shocked with the actress portraying Elizabeth. She looked so much older than the character she was portraying and certainly not one third as attractive as the book describes.
