Dazed and Confused is miles ahead of this movie in every possible aspect. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this movie, but Dazed is an all time classic, and arguably the greatest coming of age teen movie of all time. Even classics like Fast Times at Ridgemont High aren't on the same level as Dazed.
Dazed perfectly captures so much of life throughout high school, more than I ever thought any movie could be capable of: The Incoming freshman who are going from top of the totem pole of middle school to the absolute bottom, trying to find their new place by growing up very quickly and earing the respect of the upperclassmen by paying their dues.
The excitement of the last day of school and students doing whatever they please.
A small-town with a small school where everybody know everybody. Not everyone grew up with this obviously, but I did and I am grateful for it.
The longing to be done already and get the hell out of the town you grew up in, not realizing how much you'll miss it later.
All the stereotypical personalities of high school, including the type who stays in the same town after high school and can't move on from high schoolers.
The struggle of finding somewhere for everyone to party.
And most importantly, the feeling of reliving one of your last great nights of your high school years that you get when you watch this movie. Very rarely is a movie able to make me feel as though I truly experienced it.
