SPOILERS The Blue Light

Either I missed something or everybody else did...

Near the end when Roy's floating in space saying "Why should I go on?", he sees what I thought was a blue light approach Neptune that then ejects / sends a smaller orb to the space station.

Did I completely misinterpret what was going on there? Was he just seeing earth or something?

reply

I was confused to.
I thought that maybe it was aliens which would have made his dad right about other species.

reply

Yeah that's how I read it, but NONE of the reviews / synopses mention it.

reply

I don't think anyone can eyeball the Earth from Neptune.

reply

That's exactly what I thought, but someone else I talked to suggested it.

The film played fast and loose with physics more than a few times, so I thought... "maybe?"

reply

Now that you said that... yea, it makes sense plotwise.

While it's absolutely not realistic, but this film seems to totally disregard inconvenient sciece to achieve it's story. So I guess it maybe is.

reply

It was probably the sun. It appears 30 times smaller from Neptune than the Earth.

reply

I believe it was the sun. It would be really dim out there.

reply

it's the sun. the smaller orbs are lens flare in his visir. I'm not entirely sure you're not trolling with this question.

reply

He was seeing the sun, which is in the direction of home.

reply

It was the sun. It reminded him of how he used to play naked in the sun. Or some such.
