How could Clifford McBride survive for so long on a deep-space mission? Maybe I missed it, but he had to have a steady supply back and forth from Earth, or Mars to Neptune for food, water, oxygen. Even if his Neptune space station could acquire water from the icy asteroids, and somehow manufacture oxygen, what about the food? He was completely cut-off from Space Command, so steady supply for at least 16 years has ben cut.
shareIt's highly unlikely, but maybe it's still possible. Because the movie constantly reminded us that he was truly genius, exceptionally fit, the best of the best, a man with extraordinary will to live. So I can accept that as a one in a million case that somehow he survives. A special case like those very unlikely survivor of a plane crash or people stranded in the sea for so long, etc.
What did bother me, however, that the son simply planned to bring him back. Old and frail, body completely adapted in low gravity etc. after so many years living in a space station environment. I don't know, seemed too simplistic to me.

In addition, it wasn't a "science fiction" film it was a relationship drama, which is almost always what Hollywood makes. Science fiction is about how humans will adapt to new technologies.
There are almost NO science fiction films.
Well if you really think about the term "Science fiction" it fits, because this movie lacked basic science and logic. Of course the term is used differently in our lexicon. Shit movie indeed.

What they needed his permission or something? They already made the call to kill him - It was literally already a part of the film. Doing it in an effective manner is what I'm referring to.
Wasn't the film a commercial failure as it stands? Any alternative to what happened would be better.
