Downsides for me:
Counted about 6 jump scares in the first 30 minutes. My cinema was loud so got a bit tiresome where I'm jumping because of the noise and not the thing on screen.
A few jump scares were a bit hackneyed. Seen them play out before. It got more creative later on though.
Some of the CGI blood and gore was a bit silly.
The drug dealer killing himself with a dumbbell I found silly.
Protagonist doesn't tell anybody what she's experiencing. No explanations to anybody.
Other than that it was great. They at least tried to do more than jump scares later on. The story was a good one and the actress fantastic.
I really liked the original, and I thought this one was a little better. There was a noticeable increase in the budget this time around, and it seemed to be well used.
I agree with swishin48 about the overreliance on jump scares. My only other complaint is the length of the film; they could have easily cut 20 minutes from the middle, and the story wouldn’t have changed.
That said, I liked this film a lot, and Naomi Scott was really great in it. 8/10.
Just got back. You're spot on. Some of that extra footage could've been used for a Director's Cut edition but didn't turn me off from really enjoying this. Idk if you noticed but another small nitpick was the CGI (broken glass at the recovery center + end scene to name a few). But yeah...probably my favorite horror movie of 2024!
