Was thinking about checking it out, but apparently it's just 2 episodes from a mini series where the other two will be debuting on streaming next year on Angel's streaming platform.
I just saw it. For the first 30 minutes I was really thrilled and excited to see where it was going. At about 45 minutes in, I suddenly thought "oh no", much like with the Kevin Costner Horizon movie. I could feel the pace slowing down and settling down into a bunch of mundane long conversations between characters while they just kinda stare off into space. It felt like we are transitioning away from being a "Movie" and into being a "Show", which is exactly what it was.
At the end of the movie is a scannable code to watch the second installment for free on some sort of streaming service IF you buy a ticket for someone else. It's a similar marketing gimmick to THE SOUND OF FREEDOM, if not exactly the same one.
Not a terrible film, just terribly incomplete and with a very weak climax. The key scene with two hunters just asking to get killed is very poorly handled. In real life, I think things would have gotten far more desperate, far faster, and people would be killing each other (on purpose) long before going hungry. The main character's no-nonsense military persona seems fun at first but ultimately goes nowhere, as it's only meant to set things up for a show, not close it out like a movie.
