The scariest thing about this movie
Without question, the scariest thing about this movie, and I haven't seen it yet, is that the family had a working VCR to play the tape? Seriously, a tape? You know things are gonna be downhill from there.

shareI agree - that it's weird they had VHS. Yes I've got a VCR but it's tucked away.
More to the point why would someone put a videotape in the bag instead of a DVD?
Film was terrible.
I didnt mind the vhs player I just found it odd tapes were in hd
shareHD-VHS came out around the time DVD started taking over. They're not as well known, but still look fantastic, even on standard def TV's. Unfortunately they are usually only found in bags of candy on 10/31 and as such are hard to come by...

I guess you're easily frightened. If I can't find a movie in LaserDisc, I can always swing by the video store and find it in Betamax!

Thank you, banshee, this post made me crap the *beep* up. Thank you.
I was thinking that exact same thing too. I saw the VHS and thought, "Um...it's 2013. Who watches VHS movies?"
Back when I used to go trick or treating, we used to visit some houses and apts. where the residents were past retirement age and senile. Sometimes they'd actually give us medicine, old groceries, and even stuff like old socks (I am dead serious). So if I went trick or treating and got a VHS tape, I'd throw it in the trash, thinking it was some old person who mistakenly gave me a videotape instead of candy.
On another note, if I did end up watching the movie, I'd have turned it off before the first story ended. The bad acting alone would have pissed me off. That's the thing with VHS: you could only skip ahead with Fast Forward. As a result, I never finished many crappy movies. But when DVDs came out, I can skip ahead and move around much more easily. As a result, I find myself finishing movies on DVDs much more often than I did with VHS. Ironically, a lot of movies I didn't finish on VHS, I later found on DVD or streaming and ended up finishing them.
I have a vcr a dvd and a bluray player. All work great. This movie was well done for the budget allotted.
