Yes. I believe so. You have the freedom to do whatever you want and not what your employers wants you to do. It's all about making food that people love eating.

Everyone has that one dish or that one cuisine that they truely love. For Jon Favreau's character it is Cuban food which is nostalgic for him since he got his start in Miami. What is the basic staple of Cuban food in Florida? Cuban sandwiches.

Lots of successful people give up a job that makes them unhappy to pursue a dream. That's what this film is about: wish fulfillment.

He controls what he cooks. He makes people happy. He connects with his son. He works with his good friend and ultimately rejoins his ex-wife. It's a fairytale.

He even gets professional redemption at the end through acceptance by his toughest critic.

Also, that exposes a funny bit of irony in the story, too: Chef basically found happiness making crowd pleasing, traditional, dishes that the masses love to eat... after fighting AGAINST a restaurant owner who wanted Chef to make 'crowd pleasing, traditional, dishes that the masses love to eat'.

It wasn't a matter of lifetime contentment. It was a matter of being dead broke, and being Kryptonite for any possible employer. And a matter of being totally his own boss, working only with who he wanted to work with, and making food that was fun, delicious, meaningful to him, and food that connected him to other people on a "soul" level, like he had always wanted to. And having job security.

Plus he didn't stay in it for long. A new opportunity came along pretty soon.
