Eloise's Hair
I had to laugh when Grandpa had to brush Eloise's hair. I have a mixed race child and it takes a lot of work to comb through.

shareMy daughter's hair is like that and she is not mixed; heck of a time

shareYeah.. I have naturally wavy hair and that scene in the trailer reminded me of my childhood.

That's because people are not knowledgeable about how to care for this texture hair.
If you know what you are doing, it's not hard at all. Check out naturallycurly.com or any host of you tube videos for tutorials.
I thought the same thing! First, hair like that should not be brushed through with a brush like that unless it is wet. Plus, unless you want a big afro looking hair do, using a detangling comb with wide teeth would leave the curl pattern in place. Anyone with naturally curly hair knows it looks curliest when the individual hairs that make up the curl aren't separated. It's curly versus fuzz ball. But I did think it was true to form for most white people not to know how to care for hair like Eloise's. It really ISN'T as difficult as most people think. It just can't be treated like straight hair.
shareAnyone can have thick hair like her. It's not a racial thing.
shareThe whole time I was watching him hack through I was thinking you don't comb or brush through natural hair while dry, ugh. Get some dang water and conditioner. Detangle wet Kevin lol.

Yeah, it made me laugh a lot actually. My mother's white and she used to brush through my hair whilst dry and brush out the curls. I remember crying every time because it hurt so much, and my Nan used to say that no other little girls cry when they get their hair done. Now that I'm older, I understand why it bloody hurt so much.
That part in the trailer was so funny to me. It really brought back my memories, and made me want to watch the film.
Yes, you would never (I hope) use a brush on "black" hair or a comb, really. It's necessary to have the hair wet and well-conditioned and use a wide-tooth comb, or even better, when it's as long as hers was, to use your fingers to "comb" through the hair while rinsing to get rid of the tangles, gently. This greatly bothered me, as a curly-haired woman, that they still hadn't taken the time to figure out how to care for her hair. I can see how Grandpa wouldn't have known what to do, but Eloise gave him the brush to do her hair. That will only break it, causing it to be uneven and with split-ends. Rinse with conditioner every day, leaving some in on the drier ends. Beautiful curls every day.
