Why couldn't he just stay with Sadie in the past...?

I don't get it.

The world didn't end because he met Sadie, it ended because he prevented the JFK murder.

So, dating/marry Sadie would not be a problem (especially if he went after her at the diner...the he wouldn't have to kill the annoying pervert ex).

Saving the little boy was also unrelated to the killing of JFK, and as far as we know, this wouldn't end the world either.

The nutcase babbling about some girl that always dies, talks about someone else it seems.

How the hell would he know ?

What gives?

Something to consider.

Let's say after Jake dances with the elderly Sadie in 2016 he decides to go back, to heck with JFK and try again to woo and win Sadie.

There's no guarantee she'd like him the second time around, whether they met first in Dealey Plaza (as the show had) or at Jodi High School (like the book had).

Trying to re-create what you already had likely doesn't always work...think Groundhog Day when Bill Murray was trying to charm Andie MacDowell day after day after day...he just kept messing up. I am not saying Jake would do it the same, but she just might not take a shinin' to him.

In the end, though...Bill succeeded. The moment he stopped trying to woo Andie MacDowell she fell for him. The same could happen with Jake.

I don't think that's really the issue though. She clearly shows interest in him even when he shows up dirty and acting strangely. They were meant to be together but at the same time they can't. If they wanted us to believe that they couldn't recreate their love, she would have been more standoffish. That's why it was such a sacrifice for him.

What he was being warned against is that by changing her life, it's always going to end badly for her...and he's going to be stuck trying to fix it. Say he forgets about Harry and JFK and tries to live out his life with Sadie, she might get murdered by her ex-husband this time. Then when he tries to fix that, something else will happen. Yellow Card Man knows this better than anyone because he can't prevent the tragedy in his life.
