The 80s were the last truly good decade
Notice how whenever a movie or TV show adapts an earlier decade for nostalgia, they never choose the 90s or 2000s. The 50s had Happy Days, the 60s had The Wonder Years, the 70s had- ahem; That 70s Show, and the 80s had Freaks and Geeks (early 80s), Everybody Hates Chris, and The Goldbergs.
Only two shows have been set in the 90s: Ted: The Series and That 90s Show. Where's a show about kids growing up in the same decade I grew up in? Like I remember when Pokémon was huge in 1998-99. Where's a show like that? Hell, I'd even take a remake or spiritual sucessor to Freaks and Geeks that takes place in 2004-05, instead of 1980-81, complete with the theme song being American Idiot by Green Day. I loved F&G and it's a real shame it didn't get another season. However, they definitely should remake it and set it in the mid-2000s. Yes, it wouldn't be the same as the early 1980s from the original, but there's a lot of 2000s nostalgia going on and I think it would be a huge ratings success for Netlfix or Hulu. When F&G came out in 1999, 80s nostalgia wasn't ready yet. VH1's I Love the 80s in late 2002 is what made 80s nostalgia popular.
