Inspired by Jesús Franco's Vampyros Lesbos (1971).

Thanks note at the end of Anora.

Special thanks from the Director to Jesús Franco and Soledad Miranda for their inspiration on this film.

The Criterion 4K release (April 2025) has cover art reminiscent of the movie poster for Vampyros Lesbos.

The inspiration in the poster is certainly obvious. Do you know how the story of Anora is supposedly influenced by Vampyros Lesbos?

Also, have to say that the way the red scarf is draped in the Anora poster, along with the thigh-high boots, puts me in mind of Vampirella.

The inspiration from what I can tell is very loose. Maybe Sean Baker will divulge more information at some point but from what I can tell having seen both movies is that the only real similarities are the fact that Countess Nadine Carody (Soledad Miranda) and Anora (Mikey Madison) work at seductive nightclubs, and of course the fact that the two movies have notable erotic content.

It's probable that Baker saw Vampyros Lesbos and that 'seductress at a nightclub' concept helped inspire this movie in a minor way.

This feels more like a cute tip of the hat to a cult classic that Baker likes rather than a major source of inspiration, I mean Anora isn't exactly a remake of Vampyros Lesbos. Perhaps other users will be able to note some more similarities.

Okay, thanks. I've seen Franco's Vampyros Lesbos, but not this.
