If Ennis was 82 when he died in 2010, he would have been pushing 50 already in 1975. Why do they have such a young guy playing him?

I'm confused. Are you talking about the Hollywood flashbacks, where he was being taken advantage of? Those were like in the '30s or '40s I believe. When was 1975 mentioned?
share1975 was mentioned or shown several times throughout the episode, it was also the year engraved on his award. All of those events were happening in 1975.
Also, when Gloria went to Califrornia to investigate, she specifically referred to Ennis' life there in the 70's.
And why would it have been in the 30's or 40's? Do you know what people dressed like back then? Do you think women could have been dressed that way in the 30's? (Not to mention the cars, the home decor, etc., all clearly shown in the episode.)
And in terms of Ennis' (Thaddeus') age, let's not go overboard here either.

shareIt didn't jar you because you have no attention to detail and a mindset not backed up by any factual data. I bet it didn't even occur to you that in the 30's he would have only been a child (or that it was the Great Depression era), and in the 40's the oldest he could have been is 21.
Yeah, they messed up with that whole thing. The 1975 Ennis/Thaddeus looked 30 at most. Possibly a very youthful looking 40, but that's really pushing it... plus the actor who plays young Thaddeus is just 25 in real life!
shareI'm on the third episode and this is so confusing. The fashion is clearly the 70s in the flashback of young Ennis, even if it was 1970 he would've been 42. Why not make it the 60s instead which would make the guy in his 30s and more believable?
shareYeah not sure what was going on with all that, as also remember Gloria visits Los Angeles and talks to the Waitress Vivian Lord played by Frances Fisher who is 65 years old. Then in the flashbacks Vivian Lord is played by Francesca Eastwood who is 24 years old, while the actor who is young Ennis Scott Hylands is 26 years old, so a two year gap on that whole seduction bit. However in the present of the show if Vivian is 65, then why was old Ennis 82 years old, now we have a 17 year age gap between Vivian and Ennis. If you factor in that old Vivian is playing younger with her being 59 from the 24 she was in 1975, it's worse as the age gap between the two is 23 years and they were similar ages in 1975.
All I can factor in is that Ennis was not actually Thaddeus Mobley and somewhere down the line in another series we're going to find that out.

shareThese Fargo stories are told to us and we are then viewing this telling.... Who knows if it really ever happened as we are shown? Perhaps this indiscretion from the storytellers is intentionel?
Perhaps his daughter is imagining Ennis as this innocent youngster to soften the disappointment of his failure to recognize the hustle? And this is then ther story we see?
btw, I myself am only at episode 5 - so I have nothing to put it in, except that it appears these Fargo story tellers are very clever....
