I had to shut it off 18 minutes and 40 seconds in

If I had to suffer that rambling Russian bitch of a magistrate drone on for another second reading from the court record, I would be hell-bent to saw through my scrotum with a rusty reciprocating saw and pour boiling vinegar on the wound to distract me from the excruciating agony of that soul-less blather. Holy mother of all fugugly prostitutes. Who in the hell awards such high praise and accolades to such an irritating and tortuous piece of cinema? I would rather several billion female pinworms make a vacation resort of my anus than have to watch the rest of this movie. Call me what you will. I didn't give it a chance. Yeah. So what. IMO it didn't deserve one.

I know how you feel because I was thinking the same, but had you stuck with it then it turned out not so bad.
I think what was refreshing for me was not knowing who the actors were, and giving the film an almost sense of reality.
If anything the god bollox would of been my switch off alarm, but even that wasn't too heavy.
The film is slow paced, and I suppose if anything 30 minutes too long, but all in all a film I have no regrets investing my time in.

Thanks God you can always go back to the immortal classics such as Transformers, Harold and Kumar and Dude, where's my car!

Did you also complain that the fight scenes in Raging Bull were too brutal, or that the ending to It's a Wonderful Life was too heartwarming? Did it not occur to you that the speech was designed to be overbearing and soulless.

Who in the hell awards such high praise and accolades to such an irritating and tortuous piece of cinema?

As you suggest, the people that made it past the 19 minute mark. If you didn't give it a chance, how can you say that it didn't deserve one? I know that line probably sounded punchy when you wrote it, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

And it's torturous.

You guys who criticize this movie for being slow should watch something like Satantango by Bela Tarr. The first 8 minutes is just cattle moving right to left. Then it's about 7 more hours of the same stuff. You should watch that and then this movie will be a breeze.

It's intentionally drab. I actually thought it was funny, and I think it was meant to be. It found it to be taking the piss out of those in the legal system.

Another imdb member apparently with the attention span of a frog or maybe an ordinary troll. How boring again.

You made me laugh so hard.
I don't know why people are offended by this comment. He's being humorous about a very real thing: the first half of the movie is so soporific. I get you need to make a point about the mayor, but the movie only matters minutes before "the picnic". I was hooked then with the internal "issues".
It's a sad movie, but I don't expect anything else when I decide to watch a russian movie.
