Best action sequence in history?

The church scene... Wow. Now I haven't seen all the films out there but I have seen a lot and no film had anything I compare to this, The guitar solo from free bird, the brutality and the gore. The closest thing is the matrix but it's not near to it at all. My action dreams come true and just when you think he gets out... Well you know what happens. Astonishing one of the best experiences in film I've had.

Not even close

Watch Raid and Raid 2

Particularly the kitchen fight scene in Raid 2

I have seen both films before I checked out kingsman, although these fights are more realistic and 'brutal' as such, this scene stood out because it was all filmed like one take and the music was insane and every time you watch it, it feels fresh and exciting, where as on watching raid again I didn't get the same 'giddy' feeling I did in watching the church scene.

reply

Not saying it wasn't a great, well choreographed scene but it didn't make me say "holy *beep* like the kitchen fight scene.

And I could see why some would say the final fight in the first one is even better though I don't share that opinion.

reply

I think there are several scenes in the second one better than the final one in the first, notably the mud prison scene and the car chase

With a cameraman dressed as a car seat!!! Magic of the movies

restaurant spiral stairwell scene in the protector is also done in one take and pretty amazing

LOL. The church scene kind of reminded me of Keanu Reeves in John Wick. Fun, entertaining stuff.

reply

No. I wouldn't say so. I don't even think it's the best fight scene of that year, especially since the idea that these people have no control over their actions and it's a scene of horror rather than vindication or triumph which keeps it from really being enjoyable.

I prefer the Highway fight in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the Caesar vs. Koba fight in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the Electro vs. Spider-man fight in The Amazing Spider-man 2, or the "Time in a Bottle" segment in X-men: Days of Future Past.

It's still a damn good fight scene.

A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts.

Even Quentin Tarantino couldn't have done it better.
It's probably one of the most memorable violent action sequences in the history of film.

reply

Agree 100 percent. I also liked the scene -- Eggsy vs lady with spring-loaded spear feet -- near the end. Excellent slo-mo photography.

reply

Oh, that one was great.

reply

Yes, this is the best action sequence that ever existed and will exist. It is physically impossible to top this.

reply

The two best kinds of violence- graphic violence and comic violence.

Communism was just a red herring!

Indeed a great sequence. Yet, I think these action sequences right now popping out of my head are as awesome:
-Disco scene in John Wick.
-Many martial arts action sequences in Jackie Chan and Jet Li's earlier movies.
-Hitgirl killing the guards along the hallway in Kick-ass.
-Many sequences in John Woo's earlier movies, esoacially Hard Boiled.
-That Matrix sequence you've mentioned.
