How did it happen **contains spoilers**

The knock on the door from Elder Kennedy caused Mr. Reed to leave the girls and answer it. When Reed left the girls ran up the stairs and tried to get the box of matches. It was at that moment the magic trick happened and the body was swapped, but how?

The body was discarded under the floorboard under the table. Regardless of how physically weak the enslaved women were, how was it possible to move the table, open the trap door, dump the body, close the door and put the table back without making noise? When we saw Sister Paxton open the hidden door and go down there for the first time she had to dig through the mud to find the handle to open the hatch door. If it had just been used the handle and/or footprints would have been visible.

Also, the bike lock. It was used to lock the enslaved from leaving, but they were in cages and had been down there for months/years so what was the purpose of locking the door?

First, the easier (maybe) of the two question marks.
Reed hid the bicycles, knowing that someone from the church would visit all their stops looking for them. He put the red lock on the prison room to further mess with their heads. Control. The enslaved were caged inside. Reed intentionally placed the key in the wrong girl's coat pocket. Control. Mind messing. Or, he got it wrong in haste, but he was too meticulous, I think, for such an error.

As to the carrying of a lifeless body, moving a somewhat heavy table, lifting a mud covered iron hatch door and the rest ... I haven't a clue. A big hole that I chose to ignore and hide my Kappa Key under my scarf.

The mud caused by the leaky ceiling was so watery that it could have quickly gone back to mud, leaving no trace of touch. Have I lapsed you into a coma yet? ;D

i'm wondering how the heck 60 something Mr.Reed pulled off the business with the bikes..
he had to find the key, run outside, unlock them, stash them, place the lock in a in-your-face kind of way, run upstairs and be ready for the girls in like 7 minutes

Paxton says he looked a little wet.
he should be drenched in storm AND sweat!

There should have been an after credits scene showing Reed doing all this quickly with Benny Hill music playing in the background.

Yeah, dude only had one water droplet on his head lol

He could have thrown on a Macintosh (not what I call a raincoat), and it is not physically taxing to shove the bikes behind some bushes. The house was a bit overgrown.

It seemed to be a wintry storm so that would not cause much perspiration. The older people in my family still jog and play tennis at 70 plus.

I like scary movies and tend to give them more plot hole forgiveness than a prestigious Oscar contender.
