Acoustic music didn't suit the movie.

Idk i feel that using sci fi music would have made the movie more engaging.

I know that they used some at the end but would have been nice to try a similar approach to "Arrivals" soundttrack.

reply

The problem I had with Arrivals sound track was that they used music that was in other movies... I kept thinking of Shutter Island, an intense DiCaprio and a etherial Michelle Williams whenever I heard that music...

I liked the sound in Annihilation... But yes, the music towards the end was better suited... I thought they were going to use the acoustic music just tp tie the Lena & Kane characters to one another, but they didn't...

reply

The acoustic was a great contrast to the end music, and made it more impactful imo.

reply

Even the end music felt like techno dance music.

reply

If you consider anything made with a synthesizer "techno dance music", then... sure. That would be would be extremely foolish and ignorant however. It had no pulsing beat, it had no drums, it was sparse and minimalistic, it had varying tempos, etc. It was nothing like "techno dance music".

reply

It is not my assertion that anything a synthesizer is techno. It certainly had the intro EDM at the very least. I wasn't really reffering to techno in the traditional sense.

reply

Maybe I was misinterpreting your comment, are you saying that it's a bad thing?

reply

No I wasn't saying anything was bad. The accustic music didn't fit the mood of the movie though. We just got out of a few horror scenes to wake up to the tranquil music. The music seemed to imply they pressed on due to wonder and amazment but if it were me I would have pressed on simply so my colleges didn't die for nothing.

reply

Not to nitpick... but there's no such thing as sci-fi music. Well I guess there could be songs with lyrics that are telling a sci-fi story, but that would be the only possibility.

Cosmic Girl by Jamiroquai?

reply

Exactly. This music had no place after the initial bear attack scene. It makes the scenes following it feel like picnic rather then a struggle to survive.

reply

It was pretty out of step with the movie. But, interestingly, the film score seems to suddenly change direction about 2/3 of the way into the movie to the ethereal score that I think worked.

reply

It felt like out takes from Fahrenheit 9/11.

reply

I agree, I thought the soundtrack was kind of choppy. Not all of it seemed to fit the mood of the scene.

The one really jarring piece for me was the Crosby, Stills, and Nash song. My friend and I looked at each other and mouthed, "WHAT???"

reply

I respectfully disagree. I loved it, and listen to it often.
