Just saw it, my thoughts
I just left the theaters about 30 mins ago. I think the movie is high-quality
Obviously, there is a ton of gore and extremely intense torture moments; so the movie isn't for everyone. But I was able to handle it. I think the gore at times is so over-the-top that they come off more cartoonish than horrifying, which makes those scenes more tolerable. Art the Clown also makes several comedic expressions during those scenes to help lighten them up too
The plot flows smoothly, with even a few twists along the way (who saw Jonathan's off-screen death coming?). As before, Art the Clown manages to be both scary, evil, and oddly charming at the same time. One moment, I'll find myself pulling for the protagonists to kill him because he did something so evil; yet another moment, I'll find myself laughing and smiling at Art's behavior: the scene in the bar where he encounters Santa is downright hilarious (people in my theater starting laughing). The movie's handling of Art the Clown is just excellent. The character Sienna Shaw is also likeable and easy to root for, and I think they make the right choice in going with Gabby instead of Jonathan as her main relationship.
I would say one downside is that Art in this movie has a female companion, the girl who gives birth to Art's head in the first movie. I actually didn't like how Art was able to talk through her. I feel he has a greater mystique when he remains silent and communicates through body-language and facial expressions, like a mime or silent-film character. This is the minor issue that I had with the movie
The movie clearly sets up a Part 4. I'll be waiting
