No mention of Lou??
I’m only through Part One: “The Athlete”, but I’m surprised Lou is not mentioned or seen at all during all the competition footage. He was one of Arnold’s main adversaries.
Where’s Lou????

Maybe Lou did not want to partake.
shareIt wouldn’t matter if Lou wanted to partake or be interviewed. His participation in all the various bodybuilding competitions that Arnold was also in…..is public domain. This documentary could have talked about him…shown footage of him….clips of the two of them together, etc. But they chose not to. Pity. It would have really added something. Lou was Arnold’s biggest rival.
shareNah. Lou never beat Arnold. His competitors were Sergio Oliva and Frank Zane. And those guys were mentioned.
shareI think the rivalry between Arnold and Lou was made up by the producers of Pumping Iron. There were other bodybuilders that were more of a challenge to Arnold than Ferrigno, he never got close to winning Mr. Olympia.
shareYup.
shareLou is the best known (to people not particularly familiar with the bodybuilding scene of the 70’s) of his rivals, and a celebrity in his own right. They had a competitive rapport that was good onscreen. Lou was also an oddity in bodybuilding because of his height.
It was a mistake and a slight not to feature him. And, being that he’s still alive, try to get his participation in the documentary. It definitely would have added something.
No, sorry. It's obvious that you are a fan of Lou but he was and is not in the same league as Arnold.
shareOne bit of trivia regarding the Ferigno/Arnold rivalry that is not known is that they both auditioned for the coveted role of the Hulk. In spite of Arnold having beaten him in bodybuilding competitions, Lou earned the part because he was actually the bigger of the two.
