i never had a problem with strong female leads in previous years. i enjoyed all the good ones like terminator 2 and alien. it's just that in recent years, a strong female lead always comes with the misandrist tropes. then of course after 90% of movies became strong female lead, it's just boring to watch now. even if i saw another good one like terminator 2 now, it would still annoy me knowing it's happening again. this movie fell victim to it too. it's not just strong female lead, it has to twist it to have some feminist ending. the two girls team up to kill the guy. it doesnt even make sense for the vampire to suddenly turn good. she's been faking being good the entire time just to flip back to evil.

shareI suspect though that men prefer male leads and women will happily watch both. The converse isn't true. Male movie stars are generally bigger draws than female ones. I don't think it comes down to social reasons either but is something in our nature.
What's changed is that women are now very often leads in genres that were traditionally more attractive to men. It would be interesting to see if this harms their popularity.
