Odd

Not really funny enough for a comedy; far too silly for a drama... The kids are likable, David Tennant's as highly watchable as always, there are a fair few mildly amusing moments and it's entertaining enough. But, you rather get the impression that none of the film-makers really had much of an idea about what they were making or who they were making it for.

I found it was a feel good sort of a movie even when things weren't so good. I liked the subtle humour and really enjoyed the film.

I did think that at times the landscape came close to stealing the scenes, beautiful country!

The eldest child was tolerable, albeit a bit miserable (although maybe she has the right to be given the state of her parents). The other two? Jesus. Load, obnoxious, too smart for their own good. It was a nothing film really, the kind that sells because of its cast members and their appeal.

Scenery was lovely though.

It seemed the youngest child was trying hard to sound like the youngest child in Outnumbered but I liked the movie. Nice performance from Billy Connolly. Quirky but good

I just found it too jarring in tone, as if it couldn't decide what it wanted to be: drama/tragedy/comedy/etc. Add on to that, I just really didn't find it very funny (and I prefer Brit humor, so I don't know) and I wasn't keen on the kid's plot (which was a fair chunk of the film), I ended up really, really bored through it. I watched it for David Tennant, who is my fave actor, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

I thought it was funny. The children were very good.

Hmm I didn't like the children at all, terrible acting in a typical movie kind of way. Its over acting and more like a cartoonish version of kids. They have the same kind of generic children actors around the world so its not surprising. Therefore its so nice when you see kids that can act and you recognice them from real life, like little miss sunshine for example.

I strongly disagree with the OP comments. I found the mixture of drama and humor quite appropriate, I enjoyed the granddad and the kids, and the dysfunction of the adults served as a good contrast. To me grandad and the three kids make the movie. I enjoyed all their scenes the most.

And lots of small, funny stuff, like when the dad was dozing off while driving and the youngest daughter in the front passenger seat was holding the steering wheel to make sure they didn't go off the road.

I really like this movie, good entertainment with a good message about appreciating those you care about.

Yup, I completely agree with you. A funny, melancholic movie. Liked it very much.

It did try too hard for the outnumbered vibe. It did not quiet work.
