What was your favorite '80s music?

Who were your favorite '80s music groups and solo acts? I am a big music fan so it is really hard to narrow it down.

Groups
--------
Squeeze
The Smithereens
The Bangles
The Cult

Solo artists
----------
Prince
Billy Idol

My bro got me into Squeeze and I got him into The Smithereens. When they played a gig together at the Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, NJ I thought we were going to plotz. We got second row seats and knew every word to every song. I was a big Lenny Kravitz fan. His debut album came out in 1989 so I don't really consider him an 80s act. I discovered the band King's X in 1990, a couple years after their debut album.

I would love to have seen that concert, two really underrated bands from the 80's. I don't know that they go together exactly but it would have been awesome to see.

Although the '80's were a wee bit before my time, there are still a lot of '80's songs I like. Right off of the top of my head:
Safety Dance
Video Killed the Radio Star
One Night in Bangkok
St Elmo's Fire
Heaven is a Place on Earth
Beat It
Enjoy the Silence
Uptown Girl
Live to Tell

Joy Division. The Cure. UB40. And a bit of Sade for when i'm entertaining the ladies.

My 80's favs were:

. Rick Springfield
. Bon Jovi
. The Go Gos
. Cool & The Gang

Lot of hair metal

My 2 faves
Def Lepard
Metallica

Poison
Bon Jovi
Living Colour
REM
Guns n Roses
Ozzy
Lita Ford (my first crush)
Transformers the Movie soundtrack (Stan Bush, Great White! Loved that casette)

Am I the only one who feels the sound of 80's music has this epic feel? Like at the end of many songs the music feels like the ending of a sci-fi flick where the protagonist just defeated the bad guys and is overlooking a valley filled with destruction but the sun is rising and its a new day. Just how I feel.

Is this Idaho? Because I will not limbo in Idaho.

I started my teen years listening to stuff like Van Halen, Styx and Def Leppard along with pop stuff like Huey Lewis and the News.

But then one fine day I stumbled upon Run DMC and from there onward I was a rap kid. EPMD, MC Lyte, De La Soul, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys and Fresh Prince with DJ Jazzy Jeff took over my tape collection (to name a few).

On April 21, 2016 emergency responders found Prince unresponsive in an elevator and performed CPR, but were unable to revive him. There was no sign of suicide or foul play. Prince was 57 years old.

Late '80s acts:
Slayer
Metallica (remember what a huge deal it was when they did the awesome "One" video, their first.)
Megadeth
Anthrax
Ozzy
Rush
Headbanger's Ball on MTV every Saturday night.

Not necessarily '80s, but also a lot of:
Pink Floyd (span 60's and on)
Jimi Hendrix
Led Zeppelin

Hair metal sucked but Motley Crue (I count them as hair metal) was the best of that group.

I don't think Jon Bon Jovi had any solo stuff until Blaze of Glory in '90. The stuff in the 80s is with his group. Slippery When Wet was huge when I went to high school.
