Kevin Sorbo is quite alive and well and keeping busy.

I had no idea Kevin Sorbo is vampire. But yeah, so far from what I have seen so far, this show is joke. And to think people compare it to Merlin, lol.

reply

I know right? The acting in Merlin is horrible and the script is terrible beyond belief. How could anyone compare that to Atlantis? Merlin is so much worse.

reply

Abso-Bloomin'-Lutely!!! Love the way you put that !!!

reply

Yes Kevin Sorbo is alive. However this show is just like "Hercules; the Legendary Journeys" only without the action, the sense of adventure, the clever writing, the humor, the beautiful scenery, and the hot women. Other than these things, the shows are almost identical. I've seen the first 3 episodes and am undecided whether or not I will watch anymore.

With great power comes great responsibility.

reply

You shouldn't. I watched the first 10 (mostly while multi-tasking) and by episode 11 I can't take it anymore. I fast forwarded through the crap. Do yourself a favor and watch Game of Thrones instead.

Humans are slow to pick up so here's a puppet show.

reply

Oh come one! You're missing the point of this show by comparing to Game of Thrones.

It's a kids show, shown on early evening weekend television in the UK -(not sure when you see it in the USA). The BBC intended it to be a light entertainment show and they succeeded - it is a humourous comedy drama and nothing more.

As for those people who complain about messing about with the Greek mythology, perhaps you need to look up the meaning of mythology. They are stories, written by men to entertain people and passed down over generations, no doubt being changed/adapted/corrupted in the process.

Why must everyone be so critical of a show thats not meant to be serious? Its a fun show. Period. I watched about five minutes of the Sorbo Hercules and thought it was awful. Talk about bad acting. Same with Xena. Get over it people. If you dont like it, then dont watch it.

Every day I tell myself I'm sane. Like a watercolor painter, painting in the rain!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one disturbed by their portrayal of Hercules as both a buffoon and nothing special physically. I mean I don't mind them making Jason the primary hero, but why make Hercules so second-rate, especially when they're giving the actor who plays Hercules the top billing in the credits?

Edit: Oh, I just realized that somewhere this season ended yesterday, but on BBC America they just showed the fourth episode last night, so I'm way behind the curve here. If I'd realized i was watching episodes from months ago, I wouldn't have posted as I don't want any spoilers (although I've seen a few I'm trying to forget.

reply

If Hercules has his legendary powers then he will overshadow everyone else in every scene he is in. What's so terrible in doing things differently then you expected?
Everyone excepts a supremely muscular and overpowering Hercules, so instead they flipped the script and made him overweight and normal in ability.

If I wanted to watch a show about Hercules I'd go look up old episodes of the Kevin Sorbo run. However, this is not "Hercules" - its Atlantis.

reply

Yep. I wholeheartedly agree. I love the way the characters are being portrayed in this show, ESPECIALLY Hercules.

I used to watch Hercules with Kevin Sorbo, and Xena with Lucy Lawless. At the time, I enjoyed the shows (Xena, more than Hercules), but both were extremely campy fun. Today? I couldn't possibly sit through episodes of either show. But Atlantis? I'm loving it. Again, campy fun.

I just accept this show for what it is, not what I wish to expect it to be.

reply

I felt the same way, when I first started watching the show. I thought what the heck were they thinking, making Hercules such an idiot. But, I have come to actually like this show, and even the Hercules character. I just try not to think about the Hercules part or compare him to Kevin Sorbo. If you can get past that, the show is actually quite enjoyable. But, you have to go into it knowing it's kind of stupid and just have fun with it.

reply

I thought they'd canceled the show, and I wasn't too upset. Hercules did get better, and surprisingly BBC America is now showing a second season, in which I thought Hercules got even better (although it's had only one episode so far). I actually thought the first episode of the new season was the best so far.

reply

Steve Reeves was and is Hercules forever. No doubt he is aghast somewhere at Mr. Sorbo's attempts.

reply

Kevin Sorbo is the grandfather of Hercules cinema, he has some of the best acting talent of all time. You call yourself grumyoldguy1 but if you were alive and watching television in the early 1990s you would know what I say is truth.

reply

Oh, right, he somehow "grandfathered" the two dozen or so Hercules films in the '50s and '60s.
