should it be the last?
Here's an interesting article on it

Ultimately, on an individual matter, what we think on this doesn't matter. Ultimately, money talks. Scream has become one of those franchises so ongoing, that even if they say it's the finale, I won't really believe it. It'll always resurrect in another decade or so. After all, they said 3 would be the last. Plus, this franchise has the added benefit that since it's always a new bad guy, they can kill them off and not have to worry about a silly way to resurrect them. Instead, they have increasingly detached new antagonists with increasingly wild and removed motives.
I don't think this will be the end. Nor does it need to be. Being in the echelon of franchises that go on so long, allows it to really reach a fun place of ranking the entries.
And if the time to end it ever existed, it was with 3. Which ultimately would've been a bummer since that one is sort of lackluster given everything that went on behind the scenes.
But, since Sidney wasn't in 6, we've now seen that closure for the character of Sidney doesn't have to equal closure for the series, but, if the series ends, it does need to give her proper closure. Which is why she needs a proper send-off movie, and then it can continue without her. Which is why this one needs to be different. They can't just write her out off-screen with a happy ending, or they would've left it at that in 6. So they need to do something different. Basically they need to either make her the killer, or have her be killed.
