Melissa Barrera Dropped From ‘Scream VII’ Due To Controversial Comments

https://twitter.com/OneTakeNews/status/1727048097317147090

Wow she's the lead actress in these new Scream films

reply

Dammit!!!!

Wonder what she said. I'm not on X/Twitter, can you post any further details that emerge?

reply

Looks like something about supporting Palestine?

Melissa Barrera was quietly let go from Scream VII, multiple sources confirmed to One Take News. Her exit comes following controversial statements amid the Israel-Palestine crisis, with one source describing her comments as Anti-Semitic.

Thanks VinceD.

From what I have discovered she's been on a full blown pro-Palestine tirade since the war. Several posts she's supposedly made;

I'm from a country that was once colonized. Palestine will be free.

Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp.

Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water... People have learnt nothing from our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.

I think this screenshot below is the one that done her in. Implying that Jews control the media.

Our sources also confirmed that Barrera's exit was not part of the original plan. While social media has lit up with fears that Barrera was fired due to pro-Palestinian posts, Variety (and our anonymous sources) have confirmed that her exit was not due to calling for a ceasefire, but for crossing the line into antisemitism, including, as Variety reported, "an antisemitic trope that Jews control the media. A rep for Spyglass declined to comment and Barrera did not respond to a request for comment."

Part 7 is imploding.

- Radio Silence, the directors from parts 5 and 6, are gone replaced by Christopher Landon.
- There were reports that they were struggling to schedule Jenna Ortega.*
- Now we're being told Melissa Barrera is out.
- Neve Campbell is unlikely to return unless they pay her a boatload and give her character a story/ending she finds fitting.

Shitshow!

* A bloody disgusting article from today about Barrera no longer being involved mentions this once more;

Ortega’s involvement in Scream 7 is also up in the air at this time, with no confirmation she’ll be returning.

reply

If nothing works out with Campbell I could see Hayden Panettiere's Kirby Reed becoming the new face of the franchise!

reply

Kirby should have taken over after 4 with Campbell being the killer in 5 to wrap up her character.

Franchise is a mess now.

reply

Sure sounds like it.

reply

Why not just warn her first?

Ruining her career only for this...?

reply

Maybe they did?

reply

Well if they did and then she continued doing the same thing over and over again then she's just inbelievably stupid.

reply

If she's Pro Palestine, then good ridden to her

reply

an opinion is controversial ?

reply

She should be sold into the sex trade over there.

reply

WHOA😐

reply

Although I did like the two latest Scream films, she had very little to do with it. I don't think she was a good pick as a new main girl. She's no Neve Campbell.

reply

ive not seen them but according to wiki shes the main character ? maybe they'll be able to afford Neve now lol

reply

She is basically the new main girl with Jenna Ortega (who plays her sister) being the secondary lead.

Two more characters, twins (one male, one female) played by Jasmin Savoy Brown & Mason Gooding, are the other members of the 'core four'. These two are secondary to Barrera and Ortega. These four characters are the new 'Sidney, Dewey & Gale'.

Barrera is out and it seems Ortega is too busy to partake.

With the directors of parts 5 & 6 out and now Barrera leaving the project I'm expecting Ortega to bow out as well. So yes it's a shit show. They'll have to either bring Neve Campbell back or pivot towards Brown & Gooding to take up the mantle but that'll be weird and those two aren't up to be the leads.

reply

I love Scream, but if Brown and Gooding become the leads I'm out. They're nowhere near interesting or likeable enough.

Oh, and I cringed every time I heard the phrase 'core four' 😂

“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech,” a Spyglass spokesperson tells Variety.

In the wake of the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attacks and Israel’s subsequent attacks on Gaza, Barrera has been posting on her Instagram about the conflict, resharing a post that accuses Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing” and one from Jewish Currents magazine about distorting “the Holocaust to boost the Israeli arms industry.” Spyglass quickly cut ties with the “In the Heights” actor following the posts. Barrera was slated to star in the next “Scream” outing after leading the fifth and sixth entries over the past two years.
