I thought it was good!

I don't get the terrible reviews here. I feel like some of you guys went in expecting some kind of glorious Oscar-worthy drama or something, when they made it clear that this was a straight comedy. For that, I'd say it succeeded, as my theater was laughing throughout. The story was good, and Bell & McCarthy made a great duo, I thought.

It was good. Most of these terrible reviews are from people who haven't even seen the movie. They just hate Melissa. She looked beautiful in this movie and was damn funny.

ok frederica, what ever you say

reply

I enjoyed it. I think the number will go up once actual ratings start coming in. A good chunk are just McCarthy haters. I'm not even a McCarthy fan and I enjoyed it.

reply

It was good, people are just whiners or don't like Melissa Mcarthy's acting. It's a comedy, you don't take it seriously too much. Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB are becoming so bad anymore that you can't get a decent review out of anyone. Is it a 10? Of course not, is it better than a *beep* 4.5? Yes.

reply

I liked it, I just expected better. McCarthy has done better, and this movie wasn't her at her best.

reply

One of the reviews I read said MM does better work (Spy) with Paul Feig, instead of with her husband as in this case and with Tammy. Spy was definitely a superior comedy to this one, although I enjoyed it more than I thought I would based on the reviews.

I thought it was good until it became just a series of inconsistent funny moments and there was a little too much vulgarity.

reply

I thought the movie had a lot of funny scenes particularly when Michelle was watching the Texas Chain Massacre in front of Rachel as though nothing was wrong.

That's all it was, just a few funny little scenes, with a lot of over the top vulgarity. It was very humorous the first couple of times, but when they kept piling it on, it just took a lot out of the movie to me. IMO vulgarity can be "GOLD" in a movie when it is placed strategically, but here it wasn't.

reply

Spy was fantastic so yes she's done better comedies. She has also done worse comedies as well. In the case of both Tammy and Identity Thief I prefer this over those. So is it her best... no, but it's certainly not her worst.

reply

I agree. It was a good movie. Most of the theater was in was laughing.

reply

I thought it was terrible. Nothing funny about it. The heat and Spy were great, however. She needs someone to work against such as Bullock or Jude Law. She had nothing here. This was just dreadful. I couldn't stand her character or anyone else in this crap.

reply

You just dont have a sense of humor, dont take it personal. Some people just dont get it. This was clean humor, so maybe you laugh when someone gets their head blown off. I dont know, if you dont laugh at this, what are you

reply

Nope, not it. Lousy movie.

reply

I'm with you, I dont get it! I saw this movie in a test screening last summer and thought it was SO good! I'm looking forward to seeing it again now that it's officially out.

and i hate comedies 9 out of 10 times, but I like Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Bell. And I really liked this movie, it's not the typical raunchy comedy. It actually is sweet and has a heart. That's probably why people dont like it actually.

anyway, yeah, this is probably my fave McCarthy movie besides Bridesmaids.

I haven't seen it yet but I definitely plan to next week. I am a major Melissa fan. Spy was her best film so far but I have high hopes for The Boss.

reply

I agree! I thought it was great fun! If you are a M.McCarthy fan you'll love it. And, as with you, packed audience and every laughing.

reply

I agree! The movie was hilarious and the audience was non-sop laughing! I don't get the very low score on IMDb, I would have done a 7! Maybe time to get people voting if they like it and not just the people who hate it, using the comments to call MM a whore. I don't get people!
