Has anyone from this franchise actually played the game?

How far from the character did they want to write and cast... I mean Jesus what the hell! Generic action film poorly cast using fragments of the games litriture to justify a poor story line and bad movie based on a game which follows such a darker sinister stylish format.
Although the weakest of the games the Hitman: Absolution trailer
( http://youtu.be/Wu1Aii7scBo )cut scenes and story line make you want to watch a film portrayed in that way.
Did they not think of maybe following this format rather than this tripe
Also Hitman played by Michael Shannon...

Thank you!

Unfortunately I wouldn't want Michael Shannon playing agent 47 though. As stated in earlier posts, michael fasbender has the appearance, accent, and ability to play the dark and disturbed character that hitman deserves.

How about less of a marvel tone and more of a Bourne feeling? The story and mood of a successful movie is already there. They just need to convert it into big screen form which no one has yet to do properly.

If anyone should play 47 on film it's Bateson. I know he's a little on the older side but so what? They don't need to show a ripe young 20-something year old 47. They can easily build a story out of an older seasoned assassin. Bateson is literally the voice and model of the video game character. Nobody else should be playing this role, at least not while he's still playing 47 in the games.

Totally agree. Also, 47 is 48 years old in Absolution, so having a young 47 is not really important. Bateson is 55 but looks much younger. Makeup can make him look even younger. We also don't need a martial arts-like fighting 47 either. That does not belong in the Silent Assassin style. So the argument that the actor needs to be young and physically fit is BS.

Bateson has even said that he really want to make a Hitman movie but "I am not as big of an actor as Rupert or Timothy. It's all about reputation and money".

Please, any movie companies out there, make a true-to-the-games movie!

Surely, it's a lovely action flick but if you want the real deal, Bateson is the only way to go since the beginning of the game series -- Nothing else compares as Paddeyy said. One can only dream...

I've played all the Hitman games and certainly agree with you. I've never looked at them as an action type game. Would you believe I consider them to be more of a horror game and always saw A47 as some kind of paid silent serial killer. If you want explosions and guns blasting you could certainly go that route if you feel like it but that was never the purpose of the game. The only times I ended up going crazy was if I got caught during a mission or a disguise didn't work or some other mishap. In those cases I just ended up killing everyone in the vicinity (both bad guys and witnesses!) or shot my way out. Those were always rare exceptions so I don't know why couldn't freakin' Hollywood make a really taut, dark, and suspenseful Hitman movie like in the game.

It looks like somebody did play it but somebody who don't know how to play hitman and went and run and gun and massacred everybody to the target...

Don't think so. The film more or less felt like Hitman & HItwoman: Agents 69 or something. There are same faint semblances to the game series like that bathtub witht he rubber duck scene, etc.. Had any of the writers or director played the game (Contracts or Silent Assassin) I'm sure they would have made a better film. This was just Grade F for me. The 2007 version was at least bearable.

I just hope they don't make any more of these bland reboots and stick to adding more charm to the game itself. Has the latest version released, btw?

I am just sick of fanboys getting butt hurt when the makers of a film stray away from the original material a movie is based upon!!! You know what, this movie is nothing like the game it's based on. It's generic and tripe as you pointed out. I totally agree. But I found it entertaining nevertheless.

If the movie was exactly like the game, why should I pay to watch it when I own most of the hitman games. I could just play it at home, whenever I want. A movie based on a game, no matter how much it does or doesn't resemble the actual game can never hope to be as interactive, engaging or interesting as the game. It's just foolish to think otherwise.

If you've played the Hitman: Absolution, then you know even the developers of the game haven't played their own previous games.

All involved in Hitman franchise are a bunch of idiots who got a fluke hit IP and are busy trying to destroy it.
