Clark and Will

Big age difference is it not? It was 9 years...
Granted they didn't start a relationship, but they probably would have if circumstances would have been different

reply

9 years isn't too bad. It depends on the level of maturity of each party.

reply

Like if they are both mature?

Wasn't she 26 and he 31? That's only 5 years. But I'm still reading the book so maybe I have his age wrong. Nonetheless...9 years isn't that much at all really,

reply

In the book it says he is 35

In the book it says he is 35

Maybe I haven't gotten to that part yet. I was thinking in the movie it said he was very early 30's, like 31 or 32. Nine years isn't a huge difference though even so.

reply

Maybe 9 years isn't that much, but for me I'm still iffy about it. Interesting to hear the opinions of everyone else saying it's not much though!

reply

Nine years would be a lot if she was 16 and he was 25 but given she was 26, fairly mature, kind and compassionate and educated woman and he was 35, also mature, intelligent, but I can understood where you are coming from as well.

reply

Yeah but she was 27 so 8 years technically. But that's not even that bad. When you're 18 and they're 10, sure. But when you're in your mid twenties and they're in their thirties? Who cares?

Whatever the weather my ass! It's hot as hell out here!

reply

Forget the book in the movie she is 26 and him 31. What's the problem??

reply

Well, when you're 26/27 8-9 years isn't really that bad. Of course, it is a personal preference, but even now at 25 I wouldn't mind being with someone who is 35 if he was the right man for me.
Age means less for a lot of people, the older they get.

reply

In the movie she tells him she's 26 (this was right before her birthday so I don't know if she was 26 or 27) and then they said that he was 31. That's 4 or 5 years.

It may have been more years between them in the book...but not the film.

reply

My parents have a 8 year age gap and they've been married 36 years. My friend is 35 and her partner is 24. Age is just a number

reply

Letting apart the age gap, I dont think they had become in a couple if Will had been healthy and fine.
He lived in a world of yuppies, he dated sexy hot girls and Louisa was too childish and immature for a guy like him.
Just have a look at his ex Alicia, she seemed more normal, clever and pretty.
If Will had fallen in love with Lou,I am sure he had changed his mind about Dignitas or at least he would have postponed his death. Lou was not his reason to live or feel happy.Period.When you fall in love, that person changes your world completly and erases the idea of the death and the darkness of your soul.
Lou did not get to erase that from Will's inside.

Besides, aside the fact she was funny and he laught in some occasions, that doesnt mean he had dated Lou with a different circumstance.
If at all She would have been his friend ,but never his girlfriend. They were totally opposite and I dont see Will dating someone like Louisa. For these kind of guys, girls like her are invisible.

I think they address this in the wedding scene though where she is sitting in his lap on the dance floor and she says that he would never have looked at her before the accident, or words to that effect.

reply

Yeah, exactly, in the wedding (specially the book) Will admits he was a jerk in the past and he would not have looked at her..

It reminds the case of Bridget Jones/ Daniel Cleaver. He was handsome, playboy, business man,posh..and she was childish, inmature,a bit silly.Typical case of Lou and Will

In the movie and book Bridge and Daniel end up separated because Daniel was cheating on her constantly with prettier girls who liked him more. He had feelings for Bridget but not strong enough to settle down with her.I guess he loved her in a strange way.
True that Daniel is much more stupid, but even with that, when Will was living the life before his accident, he was also a playboy and a cold hearted guy, according to the second book,After You.

So I dont think a relationship between Will and Lou had worked. She was not his type at all, but at least he was honest and said he would never have had anything with her...And if they had had something,it would not have lasted much..
I think Will loved Lou but in a fraternal way,not romantically.

9 yeays is a big gap when you are a teen. Most couples (a bit more than half, I think) I know are about in 7-11 year gap, male being older one. Couples with about same age are the ones who met young (till they were 26). Double standarts is taht if the woman are older, then it is considered wierd.
