So only black people have suffered in life?

Im a latina, nor black or white for that matter. But I can't get around the fact that they have made tons of these "white guilt" films the last 10 years. Its like the only people that ever struggle in life are the black. Its a joke by now...

No everybody suffers in this life in some way or another. But historically Black people have suffered the most at the hand of whites in this country through violence, economic and social oppression. It's just a simple fact. You don't have to care about it, but it's as much as an undeniable fact as the holocaust happened to the Jews.

I'm also a Latina and would appreciate it if you would refrain from making these posts because they're embarrassing to say the least.

I saw this film today and it was beautifully done. It was not a white guilt film by any means. It showcased the life of a black family in the 50s. They say things like "the white man" and they, once, as far as I can remember, briefly bring up segregation but it's not solely about those things at all. They need to include racism because to leave it out would compensate realism and that wouldn't do anyone any favors.

It's so strange how you'd reduce a story about a black family in the 50s, about their own struggles and lives, to a "white guilt" film.

I keep trying to tell yall that this poster ain't Latino. They do this all over the net because they are told to do so from places like 4chan /pol/ aND othe forums... they come here and say they are black, asian, latino, etc but repeat the same race baiting or sexist rhetoric as the alt right. Him outright saying he is 'latina' is a dead give away... they still havn't figured out that latino doesn't refer to race...

Notice how the OP hasn't responded back (at least not under that screen name.

This film has nothing to do with "white guilt" because it's not even about white people, for one thing. You obviously haven't even seen FENCES, so you don't even have the right to complain about a film you haven't even seen. What a stupid, ignorant thing to say, but then that's typical of you idiot trolls. You always have something stupid and ignorant to say, no matter what.

I'm Latina/Hispanic and I felt this film was very relevant to ANY minority, at least the ones I know. It was terrifying watching Troy because he's basically an amalgamation of both my parents. lol

This "white guilt" expression is way overused and misused and it's getting old. What part of this movie suggests that whites should feel guilty about something? If you had watched and actually paid attention then you should understand that the issues in this movie are universal and could apply to anyone, including whites, Latinos, Asians or any other immigrants, not just blacks. It just happens that the characters are black but I guess in your mind, if you see a black person in a movie having a hard time you automatically assume that it suggests that whites should feel guilty about something. If a movie is about a black person falling off of a cliff, then it's a "white guilt" film. If a black person slips on a banana peel, somewhere down the line you best believe that a white person should feel guilty.  GTFOH and get over yourself; it is not always about you.

I woke up this way...

Do you people mind explaining what "white guilt" is?

Jesus, everybody always has to make some sort of judgmental remarks about race and such, I thought this was a great movie, well-acted and everything, and it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with white people. All the white people crying about this movie need to eff themselves because everything isn't always all about you guys.

Completely agree with the OP. Black Americans always play perpetual victims. If something goes wrong its the fault of the white man. Its been installed in them by birth. By the way i'm not white either.
