Callie's plan to fix things at the end...

What was Callie hoping to accomplish by leaving her note at the window? The machine never enabled them to change things that had already happened; it only showed them what was going on in their perpetually open-blinded living room 24 hrs into the future. Callie's notes to herself in the 8am photos only allowed her to plan future scenarios (getting closer to Finn again etc.). The doctor even implies that there is no way to "*beep* with time". Mr. B saw an image which implied his death but he had no way of knowing how or why his hat was in their living room. His attempts to mess with time changed nothing. His death and all the images that would follow came to be. So what was Callie thinking? Did she assume that if the image was different than the one they were shown she and the others would enter some sort of Groundhog Day loop and get to replay the events?

reply

Yes that is what she thought. I didn't believe there was a loop. I thought that the machine showed them what was gunna happen and it was up to them to do it or prevent it. But they somehow think that the photos have already happened regardless which is stupid. And Callie went overboard in the end. She killed Finn thinking that she could change it when she couldn't. She was thinking way too much into the time travel thing. When it's so simple: the camera is the possible future and they are the present. There's no loop or multiple Time stamps like other films. Hahaha!

The machine doesn't take pictures of possible futures. Some of us assumed that because Callie put in a misleading photo of her having sex with Finn at 8pm. When Finn dies, we know that future isn't going to happen, but it's revealed that the photo is actually from the past before they discovered the machine. The real photo has yellow tape in living room.

At the end, Calli tries to change the past, but ends up doing exactly as the photos say would happen. Her sign "Don't get caught falls," and the machine snaps a photo for Mr B a week ago that caused Mr B to think he was going to die (blood on the window, his hat, and the painting of the thing that killed Mr B).

Then another photo was taken at 8pm with the yellow tape (getting caught by the police). We don't see this photo happen, but it's safe to assume it does.

Jasper paints the thing that killed Mr Bazzeredi without looking trying to look at the photo. He ends up painting the exact same thing. Also proving everything was predetermined.

You got Jasper and Finn mixed up in this comment. Just FYI. :-)

"Game over, man! Game over!"

How come Jasper doesn't recognize the planted photo as something that has already happened?

reply

We do see the photo with the yellow tape, in the flashback when she switches them.

@OP. Exactly. Callie has put up signs everyday influencing the present, but she never changed the present. She was doing what her future self told her to do, then putting up the same signs to make sure she follows the same course of actions (this implies she thinks that putting up the signs will make her past self follow the same choices she did). She somehow jumped to the conclusion that her future self was a different person who went through different things, and was sending warning her messages from a reality that maybe no longer existed. And she risked her husbands life over that assumption. Absolutely insane.

Yeah, agreed. One of the many drawbacks of this film is went for the whole 'crazy girlfriend' angle at the end. Lazy cliche.

reply

i disagree, this isn't a response directly for you but my general take. No one really knows if it works or not to change anything. You all seem to take that the future can't be changed because the picture on the window falls down. But this is at the end and of course, 2 out of 3 are dead and 1 is being taken into police custody (so no more opportunities). BUT they could have very easily changed things in the picture multiple times (but they purposely never did so we don't know), they never show the outcome of what might happen if things were changed.

She COULD have been right, I prefer to think that she is wrong. It makes things more fun that way but it's also pretty fun to think that things would be different if only that tape on the window would have held.

And you are an idiot! Yes you, the person who made the sig look like part of the message!

reply

The camera shows them exactly what will happen in 24 hours. They can't change their future because it has already happened that way at an upcoming point of their timeline. It would be like fast forwarding 30 mins into the movie to see what's going to happen. The movie isn't going to change just because you're aware of what's coming. It already exists the way it is.

Yeah, my thoughts precisely. Makes no sense!

Callie was just stupid plain and simple. She basically found the photo she was supposed to find of herself the next day telling her to hide the other photos and such then she started checking every day to make sure to keep doing whatever he stupid future self would do the next morning. What her stupid behind wanted all along was some dick and attention, so what she saw was basically pictures of herself in the future the next mornings trying to cook up a plan to try to get that dick and attention from Finn all along even though before she actually found the photos she was pretty much doing the same thing trying to make Finn jealous while having sex with Jasper while Finn was sometimes sleeping right next to them.

When she realized just how far she would go to even kill her live-in booty call just to save the guy she "really" loved, she thought she could fock with time and make things ok. She had already lost her mind and had forgotten that the pictures are non-negotiable. The pictures were going to happen regardless exactly as they had already predicted. So her try to fock up the picture that was supposed to show by adding that note was already predestined to fail. That night after the picture without her note in it will be a picture with the crime scene tape. Now, what picture came out to show the next night is anybody's guess. Maybe the new cop will investigate the scene and he will be in the photo? Will it matter what is in the photo since maybe nobody will be living in the house? Maybe some investigator will figure it out and get consumed by wanting to know what will happen next?

I only say what I mean and mean what I say.

The creators got confused and thought they had a time machine and could go back and fix things.

OH SPOILER ALERT!

reply

I thought that the implication was that she had been changing things all along, I thought Finn had already been killed by their friend, and then she was able to stop it from happening. Maybe I got it wrong.

reply

Yes, you did. Nothing got changed. Ever.
