Why win millions when you can win thousands!
Seriously, next time just write down the lottery numbers and take home millions and then retire and report the body to police.

shareYES. Powerball. And don't just start winning every single bet with a single bookie. And maybe don't show the mean bookie a picture from the time machine cam. This movie only works if the characters are idiots.
shareIf they had enough brains to play the lottery instead of going to a shady bookie, then the photo would have shown the lottery results.
It was too dumb to watch. I couldn't watch to the end.
Obviously the whole Lotto argument is valid, but arguably the stupidest thing ever was that when the Bookie came over, the stupid woman marched in the room with a photo and said something like *beep* to the main character (no idea what his name is and too lazy to look it up, but not the artists).
This then enabled the bookie to go the second night and suspect something.
The fact the woman had a second opportunity to influence decisions, meant she was able to change time without being burnt, so could have changed events, such as the bookie issue.
The lottery is a great call.
I was constantly thinking stock market quotes.
Why did they pick dog racing? I may need to watch this part again, but my impression was that Jasper initially came up with the idea of posting the dog race winners . . . something he was already familiar with and tuned-in to.
On that point, Jasper was a moron . . . and unfortunately the script came up a bit lame on this point.
If Jasper or the others had been brighter lightbulbs, they would have thought of quicker, bigger money-making messages.
But then this would have been a different movie.
Damn . . . and now it's too late to go back in time and change things!
Jasper being dumb is one of the movie's main points
Ironically, the whole, "just thinking of the future can determine it" was better understood by Bill and Ted than Jasper. They at least understood that, if it occurs to them "now" to set something up (like hide his dad's keys behind a flowerpot), those keys will be there in their "present."
The photos don't change in this film. But if it occurs to them that the lottery would be a good idea, the next photo would likely show lottery numbers.
Problem is, Jasper was too dumb to think beyond his current dog-race-bookie strategy, Finn was too obsessed with breaking his painter's block to care about anything else, and Callie was blindly taking orders from her future self.
They were all too limited to exploit the machine, but that's the whole point of the movie.
It's not a plot hole when a stupid character acts stupidly.
there was no way they were ever going to win the lottery no matter what they did.
that was the whole point of the movie.
remember the old lady with the gun came by and showed them the picture of the hat and blood on the window.
remember it was taken 2 weeks ago?
if the photos dont change then how could they have avoided that picture from occuring?
all the machine does is show the future, a future that cannot be changed.
Only because the movie would have been 5 minutes long. They make a LOT of bad decisions for no reason.
